Here are Tuesday’s biggest percentage gainers and losers, along with top volume leaders, among companies with a market cap between $50 million and $750 million:
Biggest percentage gainers:
• Iomai Corp. (Nasdaq:IOMI), up 117.1% to $6.34 after the Gaithersburg, Md.-based biopharmaceutical firm announced it is being bought by Intercell AG for $189 million in a stock-and-cash deal.
• Basin Water, Inc. (Nasdaq:BWTR), up 22.9% to $25.61 after the Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based company was awarded a new contract by the East Valley Water District of San Bernardino County, California, for removal of uranium and nitrate.
• Fuel Systems Solutions, Inc. (Nasdaq:FSYS), up 25.5% to $24.06 after the Santa Ana, Calif.-based maker of alternative fuel systems posted a sixfold increase in first-quarter revenue.
Biggest percentage losers:
• U.S. Shipping Partners L.P. (NYSE:USS), down 30.1% to $8.20 after the provider of long-haul marine transportation services swung to a first-quarter loss.
• Crystal River Capital, Inc. (NYSE:CRZ), down 26.5% to $6.55 after the New York City-based specialty finance firm missed Wall Street’s first-quarter profit expectation.
• SL Industries, Inc. (AMEX:SLI), down 17.6% to $13.96 after the Mt. Laurel, N.J.-based electronics maker reported lower first-quarter profits compared with a year ago.
Volume leaders:
• Western Refining, Inc. (NYSE:WNR), 8.8 million shares traded compared with average of 2.9 million shares.
• Emcore Corp. (Nasdaq:EMKR), 4.7 million shares traded versus average of 2 million shares.
• Iomai Corp. (Nasdaq:IOMI), 4.5 million shares traded versus average of 125,500 shares.
