Russell 2000 ekes out a gain

The Russell 2000 overcame early losses to close with a small gain, while the Dow established a new record close. In specific small cap action, buyout news lifted shares of Community Banks, Inc. (Nasdaq: CMTY), while ViaCell, Inc. (Nasdaq: VIAC) fell on news of a wider quarterly net loss.
The Russell 2000 added 1.68 points, or 0.21 percent, to 816.25, ending a two-day losing streak. The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 73.23 points, or 0.56 percent, to 13,136.14, setting a new record. The previous record of 13,120.94 was achieved on April 27.
