The SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 Composite is a computer-generated ranking of the leading stocks in the small cap universe. Rankings are based on a stocks fundamentals, projected growth rates, institutional sponsorship, and technical trend lines. This composite is comprised of stocks that are showing an increasing relative strength to the Russell 2000. As a result, this index should outperform the Russell over long periods of time. Due to the holiday on Monday and the Inauguration on Tuesday last week's stock picks were carried over to Wednesday, January 21, 2009. The SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 Composite lost 4.35% over the past week, but the Russell 2000 shed 9.9% to 433.7 over the same period. Decliners lead advancers 19 to 6 in the SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 last week. We did manage to capture a few nice gainers despite the broad sector sell off in the market. Leading the list last week was HMS Holdings (Nasdaq:HMSY), Arc Sight (Nasdaq:ARST), and Thoratec (Nasdaq:THOR), up 7.2% 5.6% and 4.6% for the week.
