The SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 Composite is a computer-generated ranking of the leading stocks in the small-cap universe. Due to the holiday on Monday and the presidential inauguration on Tuesday, last week’s stock picks were initiated on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2009. The SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 Composite gained 1.9% over the shortened week. Advancers led decliners 18 to 7 in the SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 last week, suggesting an upward trend in the markets. We did manage to capture gains despite the volatility in the stock market. Leading the list last week was Optimer Pharmaceuticals (Nasdaq:OPTR), CV Therapeutics (Nasdaq:CVTX) and AirTran (NYSE:AAI), up 11.1%, 7.3% and 4% (respectively) for the week.
