The SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 Composite is a computer-generated ranking of the leading stocks in the small cap universe. Rankings are based on a stocks fundamentals, projected growth rates, institutional sponsorship, and technical trend lines. This composite is comprised of stocks that are showing an increasing relative strength to the Russell 2000. As a result, this index should outperform the Russell over long periods of time. A company's inclusion in the ranking should not be viewed as a recommendation.

The SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 lost about 2% over the past week. Despite the losses last week, the composite is still beating the Russell 2000 by 3.7% since our inception. Decliners led advancers 3 to 2 in the SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 last week suggesting a bearish trend in the markets. We did manage to capture a few nice gainers despite the volatility in the stock market. Leading the list last week was CV Therapeutics (Nasdaq: CVTX), Multi-Fineline Electronix (Nasdaq: MFLX), and Inverness Medical Innovations Inc (NYSE: IMA), up 36.9%, 6.5% and 3.5% for the week.

Last week Astellas announced a $16 per share bid for CV Therapeutics sending shares soaring 40% to over $16. Shares closed the week at $15.65 up 37%. This gain follows the previous weeks 7% gain, which equates to a 44.5% total gain since our coverage began two weeks ago. The stock is now out of the SmallCapInvestor.com Top 25 since the company is expected to be acquired.
