Isilon Systems rises as Q4 loss narrows
Shares of Isilon Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:ISLN) are rising on news after the close on Wednesday that fourth-quarter loss narrowed. The Seattle-based provider of digital storage systems reported that its unadjusted net loss for the three months ended Dec. 30, 2007, was $7.9 million, or $0.13 per share, compared with a restated loss of $11 million, or $0.75 per share, a year earlier.

Russell 2000 futures downThe Russell 2000 (NYSE: IWM) futures are pointing down and the small-cap index will likely open in the red on news of more credit problems. Wachovia Corp. (NYSE: WB) got the bears ready when it announced this morning that it expects to suffer additional losses of $1.1 billion due to the problems in the subprime mortgage sector. The Charlotte, N.C.-based bank, the fourth largest U.S. bank, said that it will write down collateralized debt obligations of about $1.11 per share for the month of October. In economic news, the U.S. Commerce Department reported that the trade deficit unexpectedly narrowed in September. The deficit came to $56.5 billion, a decline of 0.6% from $56.8 billion in August. A weak dollar and strong growth overseas helped lift exports. Isilon Systems reports preliminary Q3 results below analysts' expectationsInvestors are sending shares of Isilon Systems (Nasdaq: ISLN) spiraling downward after the clustered storage provider reported preliminary third quarter results below Wall Street’s estimates. For the third quarter ended Sept. 30, the Seattle, Wash.-based firm said it expects to take a net loss per share in the range of $0.08 to $0.10. Five analysts polled by Thomson Financial are expecting on average a narrower loss of $0.03 per share. Isilon said it expects total revenue to be in the range of $23.2 million to $23.7 million, lower than its previously forecasted revenue guidance range of $25 million to $27.5 million. The consensus of six analysts polled by Thomson Financial is for sales of $26.75 million. The company's final results for the third quarter of 2007 will be released on Oct. 25 after the close of market. Shares of Isilon (ISLN) fell $1.23, or 17.57%, to $5.77 at 1:41 p.m. ET. Shares of Isilon have been trading in the range of $5.26 to $28.50 for the past 52 weeks.
