MSC Software down on lower Q3 revenue

MSC Software Corp. (Nasdaq: MSCS) shares are down after the simulation software maker announced preliminary third-quarter revenue of about $57 million, below analyst estimates of $60.7 million and compared with $58.4 million during the year-ago period. The company expects to report third-quarter results on Nov. 6.

The Santa Ana, Calif.-based firm is holding a conference call at 5 p.m. to discuss financial performance and other topics.

In afternoon trading, MSCS shares are down 3.48%, or $0.50, at $13.86. Over the last 52 weeks, shares have ranged from $11.44 to $16.54.

MSC Software gives revenue guidance below expectations

MSC Software Corp. (Nasdaq: MSCS), a global provider of simulation software and services, said this morning that it anticipates third-quarter revenues below the consensus on Wall Street.

For the third quarter ended Sept. 30, the Santa Ana, Calif.-based firm said it expects revenue of approximately $57 million, below the consensus of four analysts polled by Thomson Financial of revenues of $60.65 million.

MSC said it expects to report third-quarter results on Nov. 6 and file its Form 10-Q for the third quarter on Nov. 9th.

Shares of MSC Software (MSCS) were halted in pre-market trading.

Tuesday after hours

MSC Software Corp. (Nasdaq: MSCS) was off by $0.67, or nearly 5%, to $12.85 on heavy volume in after-hours trading Tuesday after the company announced preliminary revenue results that came in below analysts’ expectations. The Santa Ana, Calif.-based software and services provider said it expects to report revenue in the range of $56 million to $58 million for the first quarter ended March 31. Four analysts polled by Thomson First Call were expecting revenue of $64.2 million. The company will report the full results May 9.
