Graham Corp. leads Tuesday percentage gainers

Graham Corp. (AMEX: GHM) reported record earnings of $3.4 million, or $0.86 a share, for the fourth quarter ended March 31, up from $1 million, or $0.25 per share, in the year-ago period. The Batavia, N.Y.-based vacuum and heat transfer equipment maker reported fourth-quarter revenue of $20.8 million, up from $15.9 million a year earlier.

Sutron Corp. (Nasdaq: STRN) reported it received record bookings in May totaling $9.3 million. The Sterling, Va.-based hydrological, meteorological and oceanic data monitoring company announced a record $18.9 million in revenue for the first five months of 2007.

Senomyx Inc. (Nasdaq: SNMX) announced its first introduction of Nestle Co. food products containing senomyx flavor ingredients.

Rackable Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: RACK) shares are trading up after online options tracking services reported increased call option activity that may be an indicator of an acquisition offer coming or of further shareholder-friendly developments. Rackable was also mentioned on CNBC Tuesday morning as a potential takeover candidate.

Diamond Foods, Inc. (Nasdaq: DMND) raised sales projections after Monday’s closing bell. The snack company announced Monday that revenue increased 43% to $97 million for the third quarter ended April 30, from $67.8 million a year earlier.

Symyx plunges to new low on downgrade, lowered ’07 outlook

Shares of Symyx Technologies Inc. (Nasdaq: SMMX) lost more than one-third of their value in heavy trading this morning after Nollenberger Capital downgraded the company from “Buy” to “Neutral.”

By 11:06 ET, Symyx’s stock had plummeted $6.22, or nearly 35%, to a new 52-week low of $11.58 after having traded as low as $10.92 earlier in the day. Previously, shares had traded between $16.01 (on Feb. 27) and $30.04 (on May 4, 2006) in the past year.

Volume was exceptionally heavy this morning with more than 2.5 million shares changing hands, compared with an average three-month daily volume of 198,902 shares.

The downgrade came following a series of announcements by the Santa Clara, Calif., company after the market closed on Wednesday.

Russell 2000 slipping

The Russell 2000 index is sagging despite better-than-expected data on weekly U.S. jobless claims.  Shares of Symyx Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: SMMX) are down on news of a quarterly net loss, while Columbia Laboratories, Inc. (Nasdaq: CBRX) has gained on news it may have a treatment for cervical shortening.

At 11:11 AM the Russell 2000 was down 0.92 points, or 0.11 percent, to 831.15.  The Dow Jones Industrial Average had added 23.00 points, or 0.18 percent, to 13,112.89.
